Sarkodie, real names Michael Owusu Addo is a Ghanaian rapper and entrepreneur who was born in Tema Ghana. He is the fourth child of his mothers five children and was raised by his mother; he attended Tema Methodist Senior high School and also has a degree in graphic design from IPMC. He started rapping at a tender age but his breakthrough into the music scene was when he started performing at rap battles before earning a music deal that saw the release of his debut album in 2009. The rapper is known to occasionally rap in his native language of Twi, and also in English and pidgin which makes him versatile and bankable. As a matter of fact, he was among the top ten richest and bankable African artists on Forbes list.

He has a large following which cuts across Africa and other parts of the world. He has performed alongside other big names in the music industry both locally and internationally such as T-pain, Ludacris, Trey-Songz, Movado Davido, 2-Face Idibia, Wiz-Kid amongst others. He launched his own foundation known as The Sarkodie Foundation which is dedicated to supporting the underprivileged children in Ghana and around Africa.
He also runs his own clothing line known as “Sarks by Yas” which he launched on the 27th of April 2013. The clothing line provides timeless accessories for both men and women and also children. He was made the Samsung Electronics brand ambassador in 2012 and also used the exposure to launch his own headphones known as the “Obidi Chief Headphones” which was widely patronized in Ghana. He signed an endorsement deal with FanMilk Ghana in 2013 and partnered with Tigo Telecommunications to sponsor the 2013 Rapperholic tour in Ghana.
The rapper has five studio albums to his credit namely Makye which was his debut album released in 2009 and Rapperholic (2012), Sarkology (2014), Mary (2015), and Highest in 2017. He had his first international tour in 2012 when he performed in more than eight cities in the United States of America.
The rapper leads a flamboyant life which is evident in the way he dresses and his fleet of cars, he owns one of the biggest houses in Ghana owned by a musical celebrity. He is a leveled headed businessman and a loving philanthropist who is estimated to be worth 7 million dollars by Forbes Magazine.
He has performed on many stages in different countries which includes Nigeria, Kenya, Gabon, South Africa, France, Canada, Germany, Italy, UK among others. He was the first Ghanaian artist to win the best international act at the 2012 BET Awards and has won numerous Ghana Music Award with numerous nominations which include MTV Africa Awards, Afrimma, Soundcity, Channel O and EMA.
In addition to been nominated for numerous music awards, he has also been distinguished at numerous honorary events due to his acute humanitarian and entrepreneurial qualities, he was made to address a group of Harvard Business Students on February 27, 2016 on the theme “The Art of the Hustle” before performing to the excited students.
